A team of officials led by Vice Chairman of the Hanoi Municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Huy Tuong held a working session with officials of Bat Trang Commune and discussed ways to overcome economic difficulties and further develop the local handicraft village’s businesses.

At the meeting, the Vice Chairman instructed the Municipal Commerce and Industry Department to work with other relevant government agencies to recognize Bat Trang as an ancient handicraft village, laying the foundations for a project to develop the “Tourist Handicraft Village of Bat Trang-Kim Lan” by 2015.

The Bat Trang Pottery Association was also advised to promote and introduce its products both at home and abroad, and to actively back up businesses and co-ops in developing their trademarks, designs and quality of their products, as well as providing training courses for local young laborers.

With two projects, one aimed at restoration and preservation of the ancient handicraft village, and the other aimed at developing handicraft village tourism, Bat Trang is expected to soon become an economic, cultural, trade and tourist hub for the capital city region.
