The Hoa Lac Astronomy Centre will be the site to carry out research, training and international cooperation on astronomic technology, according to the conclusion made by the Deputy Prime Minister, Nguyen Thien Nhan.

The Deputy Prime Minister has agreed the project to build an astronomic centre in the Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Zone, in Hanoi, within the agreed framework on a national strategy on astronomic research and application through to 2020 which has been signed by the Prime Minister.

The Vietnam Science and Technology Institute was assigned to manage the project and to collaborate with the Japanese project consultants to complete the various documents on the investment.

According to initial estimates, the project is to cost around US$350 million and will last 8 years, starting in 2010.
