Vietnam, Italy to boost economic cooperation
PANO – The Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on December 14 jointly held the sixth meeting of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation.
The meeting aimed to implement the Vietnam-Italy strategic partnership and the plans signed at the previous meeting.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An and Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Manlio Di Stefano co-chaired the event.
During the online meeting, the two sides agreed on plans for post-pandemic economic recovery and optimizing the benefits to be gained from the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), thus boosting economic ties between the two countries.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An affirmed the traditional bilateral friendship and cooperation have been enhanced and developed, adding that Vietnam acknowledged the support from Italy over the past time.
As the 2020 ASEAN Chair, Vietnam congratulated Italy on its promotion as an ASEAN development partner, paving the way for closer cooperation between the country and member countries of the bloc, said Deputy Minister Dang Hoang An.
For his part, Italian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Manlio Di Stefano regarded Vietnam as a “bright spot” in economic growth amid the severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The next meeting is scheduled to occur in Italy next year.
