Vietnamese women’s football team wins AFF championship
PANO - Vietnam claimed the title of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championship 2019 after beating the host Thailand 1-0 in 120 minutes on August 27.
Vietnam advanced to the final as the Group B leader with 12 points, scoring 23 goals and only conceding one. Their Thai rivals had the same points after winning four matches in the Group A.
At the final, the Thai team dominated most of the match while Coach Mai Duc Chung’s side held on in spite of great pressure from the host.

The two teams entered extra time after finishing regulation with a goalless draw.
The turning point came at the 93rd minute as Vietnam’s captain Huynh Nhu scored a goal.
Though Thai players were determined to find the equalizer, their Vietnamese peers successfully stood up until the end of the extra time.
With this result, Vietnamese women won the 2019 AFF Women’s Championship.
