Program honoring outstanding athletes and coaches held in Hanoi
PANO – A program titled “Glory of Vietnam Sports” to honor outstanding athletes and coaches and athletes with disabilities in 2016 was jointly held by the General Department of Physical Training and Sports under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Vietnam Sports Newspaper on March 27 at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi.
The event was to mark the 71st anniversary of Vietnamese Sports (March 27, 1947). The event drew the participation of representatives of ministries, central agencies, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, sports federations along with outstanding athletes, coaches and athletes with disabilities.

Last year, the Vietnamese sport sector held many exciting activities and recorded achievements. Notably, marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh pocketed a gold and a silver as well as set a new record at the Olympic Rio 2016, marking a milestone for Vietnam’s sport history.
As for athletes with disabilities joining the Paralympic 2016 in Rio, Brazil, Le Van Cong (men’s weightlifter) won a gold medal; a silver medal went to Vo Thanh Tung (swimmer), while Dang Thi Linh Phuong (women’s weightlifter) and Cao Ngoc Hung (men’s javelin) won bronze medals.
Besides, Vietnam successfully organized a regional tournament - the Asian Beach Games (ABG5).
The organizing panel presented certificates of merit by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism; “For the Cause of Generations” medals and certificates of merit of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, and other awards to outstanding coaches and athletes at the event.
This meaningful activity also aimed to widely disseminate achievements and contributions of the sport and physical training sector to the national construction and defense cause.
