PANO - The Embassy of the Republic of Korea (RoK) in Vietnam on June 30th held a press conference to introduce a qualifying round of the Korean Food Cooking Contest in Vietnam.

The contest aims to enhance the exchange of food culture between the RoK and other nations worldwide, including Vietnam.

According to Heo Songmoo, the Food and Drug Safety Attaché of the RoK Embassy in Vietnam, the organizers selected 10 candidates from more than 40 entries to participate in the qualifying round in Vietnam. Vietnamese chefs with cooking experience at Korean restaurants, students at cooking colleges and any Vietnamese interested in Korean gastronomy are eligible to compete in the contest.

The participants cooked one of the four Korean traditional dishes such as Bibimbap (mixed rice), Japchae (mixed noodles), Bulgogi (grilled marinated beef) and Tteolbokki (spicy rice cake). Each person also has 3-5 minutes to present their food.

The winners of the qualifying rounds will have a visit to the RoK within 9 days and participate in Korean gastronomy courses as well as compete in the finale.

For the second consecutive year, the qualifying round has been organized in Vietnam. This year, the round is also held in 20 other countries around the world such as China, USA, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and more, broadcast on the Korean Broadcasting System (KBS).

The winner of the round will receive a prize worth USD 10,000 and become an honorary ambassador to promote Korean gastronomy to the world.
