Vietnam is aiming to have 10-15 athletes competing at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in shooting, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, fencing and weight-lifting, according to the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.

Four Vietnamese athletes have so far qualified for the Olympic Games, including two marksmen Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong, swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and field athlete Nguyen Thi Huyen.
The four-won tickets to the Olympics next summer as a result of their outstanding performance at the 28th SEA Games recently held in Singapore.
Anh Vien’s records at the games exceed three A standards of the world championships for Women’s 400-metre freestyle, Women’s 200-metre individual medley and Women’s 400-metre individual medley events.
Nguyen Thi Huyen brought home two gold medals in two individual events – Women’s 400-metre hurdles and Women’s 400-metres – and one gold in the 4x400-metre relay.
