The Vietnam’s top badminton player, Nguyen Tien Minh, will compete at the ongoing World Badminton Championships 2011 from August 8th to 14th in London, the UK.

With his second prize at the U.S. Open Badminton Championships, winning a ranking of 7th in the latest World Badminton Federation (WBF) ratings, Tien Minh is selected as the tournament’s number 7 seed.

Accordingly, if the Vietnamese player defeats the world’s 71st rank Misha Zilberman (Israel) in the first round, he would meet other strong rivals including Kashyap (India, the world’s No.28, who had beaten Tien Minh twice previously), Boonsak (Thailand, No.10), Peter Gade (Denmark, No.3) and Lin Dan (China, No.2).

In last year’s championships in France, Tien Minh had to stop at the 1/16 round, losing to his rival Park Sung Hwan (the Republic of Korea) with a score of 0 – 2.

The champion of the tournament 2011 will receive added 12,000 points for the rankings instead of a prize in cash.

It is predicted that Tien Minh could possibly get a ticket for the upcoming Olympics in London 2012.
