The stamp commemorates and honors Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals of peace and non-violence and his contributions to the Indian people’s struggle for independence. The commemorative stamp also serves to strengthen the Vietnam-India comprehensive strategic partnership.

Born on October 2, 1869, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi led India in the struggle for national independence. He is honored as a national hero by the Indian people. His birthday is a major national holiday, and the United Nations has also declared October 2 as the International Day of Non-violence to honor Gandhi's message.
