Thousands of travellers are flocking to the Mekong Delta province of An Giang to experience the one week Ba Chua Xu (Lady Xu) Festival and ask the famous goddess of wealth for a prosperous life.
The Ba Chau Xu Temple is located at the Sam Mountain , deep in the Mekong Delta and close to Tinh Bien, near the Cambodian border. The temple’s unique sandstone Lady Xu monument and its time-worn temple have turned the small riverside town of Chau Doc into a pilgrimage site for many centuries.
Aside from boat races, pilgrimages, and lantern flying, this year organisers are going to declare the site as the biggest temple in Vietnam and the sacred monument as its biggest and oldest stone construction. The distinction has already been recorded in Vietnam ’s Guinness Records.
The fascinating way of life in watery Chau Doc and the blend of Cham, Khmer and Viet cultures add more to the tourists’ to-do list. The festival lasts until May 31.
