US Grandmaster Varuzhan Akobian held his Vietnamese rival GM Le Quang Liem to a draw at the ongoing 2012 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival, UK on January 29.
This was Liem’s third draw at the tournament and leaves him with 4.5 points, preventing him from closing the gap between himself and the leading group, which includes Nigel Short and Michael Adams from the UK, Shakriyar Mamedyarov from Azerbaijan, Krishnan Sasikiran from India, David Howell from the UK, Gopal from India, Nana Dzagnidze from Georgia and Parimarjan Negi from India, who have all earned 5 points each after 6 games.
Liem, with an Elo rating of 2714, should have a good chance to defeat Tamir Nabaty (1882) from Israel in his 7th game of the tournament.
