Delivering a speech at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam emphasized the festivals’ wide range of practical, meaningful, and cultural identity-imbued activities, saying that they are realizing Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s conclusion at the national cultural conference held a year ago, and contributing to preserving and promoting cultural heritage values, developing the culture imbued with national identity, creating more basis and motivation for sustainable socio-economic development.

The government leader urged Bac Lieu province to strongly tap inside and outside resources to achieve five socio-economic development pillars that it has defined. He asked the province to promote initiatives, programs and projects on region connection. In the short term it should team with Mekong Delta localities to implement joint infrastructure investment projects.
Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam also underlined that awareness of culture should be deeply raised. Culture is the source of the nation’s strength, the endogenous strength, the spiritual foundation of society, the goal and the driving force for national development. The preservation and promotion of the national cultural heritage values and the culture imbued with national identity create motivation for sustainable development.
Taking place in three days, the festival draws the participation of 25 provinces and cities nationwide.
Through these events, Bac Lieu wishes to introduce and popularize its cultural and tourism specialties, potential and strength to attract more investment and tourists, contributing to local tourism, socio-economic development, according to Secretary of Bac Lieu provincial Party Committee Lu Van Hung.
The party leader of Bac Lieu province added that the highlight of the Bac Lieu Culture and Tourism Festival 2022 is to honor the value of “Da co hoai lang” (Night drumbeats cause longing for absent husband) composed by late musician Cao Van Lau over 100 years ago, and the preservation and spread of Don ca tai tu Nam bo (Southern amateur singing) recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
