Accordingly, the patient is a boy named K.B., aged 8 from Laos. He was born prematurely at 28 weeks, weighing only 1.7 kilograms. After receiving a general medical examination by doctors of the Lao Hospital for Mothers and Children, he was diagnosed with congenital heart disease, ventricular septal defect and severe pulmonic stenosis. Therefore, the doctors had an online health consultancy with medical experts from the Cardiology Center of Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics to find the most effective treatment for the patient.

Recently, the boy’s health condition was getting worse. On July 20, he was taken to the Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics for the third operation.

On July 21, Director of the Cardiology Center Nguyen Ly Thinh Tuong directly conducted the surgery. With thorough preparations, the operation was performed successfully after seven hours. The patient then was brought to the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit.  Eleven days after the operation, his health got better and he was transferred to the Cardiology Department for further treatment.

On August 10 (twenty days after the surgery), the patient was in a stable condition and discharged from the hospital.

During his treatment in the Vietnam National Hospital of Children, sharing his difficult condition, the hospital called for donations from individuals, enterprises and benefactors at home and abroad. As a result, the Laos- Vietnam Joint Venture Bank in Laos donated VND 70 million and Vietnamese individuals and organizations in Laos contributed VND 145 million.

The support of the Vietnamese doctors, individuals and organizations contributed to strengthening the special friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Laos on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic relations.
