Vietnam, Cambodia promote trade activities in border areas
PANO - The Asia-Africa Market Department under the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade, in association with several Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces bordering Cambodia, on May 21 held a teleconference on the problems and challenges associated with imported and exported goods crossing the shared border with Cambodia.
At the conference, the provinces’ Departments of Industry and Trade discussed import and export activities and cross-border trade with Cambodia to ensure good trade of goods between the two countries, while preventing the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The delegates also made a number of recommendations to create favorable conditions for the cross-border trade between the two countries, such as simplifying procedures for quarantine import certification with fruits from Cambodia to Vietnam; upgrading several open paths and tracks in Kien Giang province to the main border gate while main border gates, including Vinh Binh, Vinh Xuong, and Thuong Phuoc will become international border gates. They also suggested further trade promotional activities with Cambodia.
The Vietnam Trade Office in Cambodia also reviewed the socio-economic situation in the country, measures to control and prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, and difficulties that enterprises have faced in trading with Cambodia in the context of the current pandemic.
The agency proposed a number of recommendations to promote trade between Vietnamese and Cambodian border provinces and strengthen the trade cooperation of the two countries.
Trade promotion activities are necessary to promote products and enhance the identity of Vietnamese products in Cambodia, especially for specialty goods from border provinces. In the coming time, if the border gates are still closed, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will coordinate with the Cambodian side to hold online conferences and trade promotion programs to further promote Vietnamese products to the Cambodian market. It is expected that in the third and fourth quarters of 2020, when the disease is contained, the Ministry of Industry and Trade will organize many trade promotion activities and fairs in Cambodia.
Concluding the conference, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and its affiliated units in the provinces with a shared borderline with Cambodia, expressed their resolve to remove the difficulties in importing and exporting with Cambodia, as well as boost production and market development.
