PANO – A conference to review construction of the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship monuments was held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 24.

Present at the conference were Lieutenant General Le Chiem, Deputy Defense Minister; Lieutenant General Do Can, Deputy Director of General Department of Politics, of Vietnam People’s Army; and Nhem Valy, acting General Secretary of the National Council of Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland (SFDCM).

Addressing the event, Lt. Gen. Chiem highly valued the achievements of the two sides and informed that Vietnam has invested in 12 Vietnam-Cambodia monument projects. So far, 8 out of 12 projects have been implemented and 6 of them have been completed. On behalf of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry, Gen. Chiem thanked Cambodian government and SFDCM for their coordination to complete the projects as schedule.

For his part, Nhem Valy said that the Vietnam-Cambodia friendship monuments are the symbol of solidarity and friendship between the two countries. Cambodia’s government and people always remember the great contributions of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers for saving the country from the Pol Pot genocide regime. He also expressed his deep gratitude to the Vietnamese government for its support in upgrading and repairing the friendship monuments.
