ASEAN boosts cooperation in fighting transnational crime
PANO - The 16th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC 16) and its related meetings took place on September 21 via the online format.
The event was under the chair of AMMTC 16’s Chairman Samdech Krolahom Sar Kheng, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. General To Lam, Vietnam’s Minister of Public Security attended the event.
Speaking at the meeting, General To Lam emphasized ASEAN’s law enforcement agencies should further consolidate and promote the effective implementation of cooperation programs and plans related to transnational crime prevention and combat within existing ASEAN multilateral cooperation mechanisms.
Also, the sides should strengthen information and experience exchanges in fighting against transnational criminal gangs in the region, especially drug, cyber and hi-tech crimes while teaming up to verify, chase, arrest and extradite wanted individuals within the framework of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, he added.
Meanwhile, he highlighted the importance of promoting negotiation and signing of bilateral cooperation documents on crime prevention, creating a favorable legal corridor for the cooperation process.
