The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has launched a campaign to make Thai silk more popular in the global market.

Executive Director of the TAT Office Visanu Jaroensilp said the campaign is to commemorate the Queen’s 84th birthday anniversary.

Five famous Thai designers will be asked to create 55 contemporary Thai outfits from locally produced silk. Fifteen fashion design students from universities across the country will also be recruited to help in the campaign.

These clothes will be showcased at exhibitions at Siam Paragon from August 20 - 21 and at Plenary Shopping Mall from August 23 - 28.

Visanu said the TAT will campaign for nine new tourist destinations that promote silk production in Thailand. Tourists will get to learn about t he traditional silk making from local villagers.
