The team, led by Deputy Chief of the Office of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army Col. Pattana Bouttichak, consists of 33 officers, mostly from engineering and military medical units. They brought along essential rescue equipment and medical supplies.

Laos' participation in the search and rescue operations not only helps Myanmar overcome post-earthquake difficulties to soon return to normal life, but also demonstrates Laos's solidarity, compassion, and sense of international responsibility.

On March 31, Myanmar’s state media reported that the death toll reached 2,065 while more than 3,900 were injured and over 270 missing. The military government declared a week-long mourning period from March 31.
