Germany, ASEAN seek to boost vocational training cooperation
German experts and representatives from the embassies of ASEAN nations in Germany gathered at a forum in Hamburg city on March 2 to seek ways to expand cooperation in vocational training between the two sides.
The event, the first of its kind, was jointly hosted by the German Asia-Pacific Business Association (OAV), the Competence for International Cooperation in Vocational Training and Education (iMove) under the Federal Institute for Vocational Education and Training (BIBB) and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, under the auspices of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The forum comprised three sections, through which participants discussed initiatives on education and measures to boost joint vocational training projects in the coming time, with a focus placed on the involvement of enterprises in the work.
Participants highly valued the on-the-job vocational training of Germany, saying that this should be a role model for other nations in the world, including ASEAN member nations.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Germany Doan Xuan Hung highlighted Germany’s increasing investment flow in Vietnam in many fields, which has laid a foundation for the Vietnam-Germany cooperation, including vocational training.
He underlined the potential for vocational training cooperation between Vietnam and Germany, particularly in high technology, saying that Vietnam has a young population and abundant workforces while the country’s vocational training falls short of demand.
The same day, the OAV and the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce hosted a trade promotion event called “Liebesmahl”, the 98th of its kind, featuring the role of Asia and Southeast Asia in the city’s economic development.
