ASEAN looks to promote human resources development cooperation
The ASEAN ministers’ meeting for human resources development in a changing world of work is underway in the form of video conference from September 15-16, with the goal to promote ASEAN cooperation in HRD in line with requirements of employers and employees, and the development of technology.
At a press conference held in Hanoi on September 15, Head of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA)’ Department of International Cooperation Nguyen Manh Cuong said about 150 delegates are taking part in the event from 70 locations. They include ASEAN labour and education ministers, the ASEAN Secretary General, chief representatives of international organisations and dialogue partners of the bloc in and outside the region.
Co-organised by the MoLISA and the Ministry of Education and Training, the meeting also features a special session of ASEAN labour and education ministers on September 16.
Four discussion sessions will focus on partnership for human resources development, workforce development in post-pandemic era, the private sector’s leadership role in the field, and the education and training systems' readiness to boost skills in the 21st century.
The meeting aims to produce specific outcomes to report to the ASEAN Summit in November.
At the press conference, Cuong emphasised that Vietnam considers human resources development one of the three breakthroughs apart from institutions and infrastructure development.
He noted that population aging, climate change, and COVID-19 pandemic are strongly affecting the labour market. Therefore, human resources development is more important than ever, he said.
