Taking place at the Leamy Lake Park in Quebec, the event opened with a mass Zumba dance performance followed by a series of sport activities, including tug-of-war and volleyball competitions.

Nor Hasimah binti Abu Hassan from the High Commission of Malaysia in Canada expressed her joy in joining the event for the second time, saying it is an opportunity of mutual understanding.

Indonesian Ambassador to Canada and current head of the ASEAN Committee in Ottawa Adul Kadir Jailani praised the promising ASEAN – Canada cooperation and believed the ties will thrive in all fields, particularly politics, economy, and culture.

He stressed the two sides are working to secure a free trade agreement.

Established in 1967, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam. In 2018, its GDP hit nearly 3 trillion USD, making the bloc the 6th largest economy in the world.

Canada is currently the 9th biggest trade partner of ASEAN.
