PANO – Financial ministers from 11 countries participating in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) deal gathered in Da Nang on November 9 on the sidelines of the APEC 2017 Economic Leaders’ Week.
The meeting was co-chaired by Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Tran Tuan Anh and Japanese Minister of Economic Revitalization Toshimitsu Motegi.

Addressing the event, Minister Anh held that relevant working groups have made efforts over the past three days to achieve consensus in some controversial issues, enabling the involved parties to reach the final commitment package.
Meanwhile, Minister Motegi also underlined the importance of the package for the prosperity in the region.
Previously, Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son said that in the framework of APEC, cooperation and regional linkage mechanisms, including TPP, must be characterized by voluntarism, mutual benefit and mutual respect.
The trade pact was signed in February 2016 by Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the US and Vietnam, before the US’s withdrawal earlier this year.
