Troops of Binh Thuan Provincial Military Command promptly preparing for search and rescue missions

On November 11, border guards in coastal localities informed 60,547 ships with 288,626 crewmen of developments of the storm.

1,269 households with 5,939 people in localities who could be badly affected by the storm were evacuated to safer areas. Meanwhile, the six provinces of Thua Thien-Hue, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thua and Binh Thuan issued sea bans, prohibiting vessels from going to sea.

Military Region 5 has directed its affiliates to make good preparations to cope with the storm, and established three command posts in Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan

Also on November 3, the General Department of Politics (GDP) of the Vietnam People’s Army asked military regions 4, 5, 7, 9, Naval, Air-Defense-Air Force Services, Border Guard and Coast Guard Commands, Army Corps 3, 4, 15, 16 and 18 to follow closely developments of storm Damrey to deal with each situation while ensuring safety for troops, weapons and equipment and barracks.

The GDP also tasked the involved units to closely team up with local authorities, militia and self-defense forces, public security forces and other relevant agencies to inform and instruct ships to take refuge, and to evacuate local people from dangerous areas.

They were also requested to maintain forces and equipment to also help locals, overcome the anticipated flooding consequences, conduct search and rescue missions and ensure safety during the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang city as well.
