The information was announced by Permanent Deputy-Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son at a press briefing on the Week held on November 2 in Hanoi.
Also at the meeting, Deputy-Minister Son announced that President Tran Dai Quang will preside over the 25th APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, during which APEC economic leaders will discuss and evaluate their cooperation in the APEC Year 2017 and map out strategic orientations for subsequent years.

President Tran Dai Quang will be the chair of the APEC and ASEAN Informal Dialogue under the theme “Creating new dynamism for a comprehensive connectivity in Asia-Pacific region”. This is the first APEC-ASEAN dialogue, initiated by Vietnam, with the aim of enhancing the coordination between the two cooperative mechanisms.
President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse will host an official welcome ceremony for the APEC economic leaders and their spouses and the gala dinner and the artistic performance which, according to Son, will be a cultural highlight of the Week to introduce the unique and typical Vietnamese cultural identity to the APEC economic leaders and other international friends.
President Tran Dai Quang will deliver an opening speech at the APEC CEO Summit which will draw attention of the most businesses with more than 2,000 registered businesses.
As scheduled, the Vietnamese President will participate in the plenary session and discussions of the APEC and APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Dialogue. This first-ever official meeting between APEC economic leaders and businesses aims to give businesses chances to voice their constructive opinions of the forum’s development.
According to Deputy-Minister Son, first lady Nguyen Thi Hien, President Tran Dai Quang’s spouse, will chair a program specially designed for APEC economic leaders’ spouses, and the participants will learn more about Vietnam, its natural beauty and people.
Son emphasized that Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will deliver a keynote speech at the Vietnam Business Summit, the first-ever of its kind to be held with the aim of popularizing Vietnam’s economic policies, investment, tourism and business potentials, and, so far, more than 2,000 domestic and international businesses have registered to participate in the summit.
During the week, as Deputy-Minister Son revealed, the APEC economic leaders will have bilateral meetings and talks, including those with Vietnamese senior leadership, in order to bolster cooperative ties among APEC member economies.
The Vietnamese official said that economic, trade and investment-cooperation agreements between Vietnam and APEC member economies will be signed during the week and that the leadership of IMF, AIIB, OECD wish to meet Vietnam’s high-ranking leaders.

The organization of more than 200 APEC activities during the year and the preparation for the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week have seen important contributions from APEC member economies and many of them have made high-level political commitments to support Vietnam to successfully organize the Week. Vietnam highly appreciates those contributions and hopes to be further backed by APEC member economies during the Week”, said Deputy-Minister Son.
