Peaceful Tho Chau Island
PANO - As an island commune of Phu Quoc district, Kien Giang province, Tho Chau covers 1,398ha and consists of eight islets and has more than 620 households with some 1,900 people working and living here.
Over the past years, social safety and order, defense and security in the island commune have been faithfully upheld, encouraging local fishermen to feel assured when fishing offshore, to defend their fishing grounds and to contribute to the certainty of the national sovereignty over these seas and islands.
PANO would like to introduce some images of Tho Chau island commune.
Located in the southwest of Vietnam and 110km off Duong Dong town of Phu Quoc district, and 220km off Rach Gia city of Kien Giang province, Tho Chau island commune is an ideal entrepot and stopover for fishing boats.
The commune has only a village with eight self-managed people’s groups. Goods and food in the commune are mainly transported from the mainland.
Due to the effects of the monsoon, local people limit their stay in Bai Ngu to between September and April on the lunar calendar and in Bai Dong between May and August on the lunar calendar.
Local people live mainly on fishing, cultivating and processing seafood.
