Foreigners visits Hoi An Ancient Town

PANO – Developing tourism is one of the measures intended to preserve and bring into play values of cultural heritage, contributing to local economic development.

This was affirmed by Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Huynh Vinh Ai at a workshop on cultural preservation and tourism development held by the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee in Hanoi on September 24th.

Located in the Central region of Vietnam, the coastal Quang Nam province is home to two world heritages of Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son temples and world biosphere reserve Cu Lao Cham, recognized by UNESCO.

With its diversified cultural values due to the inhabitants’ various ethnic minority backgrounds, Quang Nam province has the potential to ramp up its sustainable tourism.

However, Quang Nam is still facing major challenges, such as finance for preservation and management of heritage sites; the development of tourism brands and products; and the quality of human resources.

Participants pointed out that Quang Nam province has actively raised its people’s awareness of heritage preservation and received practical support from international partners.

Additionally, they reviewed achievements of international projects to preserve culture and develop tourism in the province throughout the 1999-2014 period, and rolled out plans for the following years in order to effectively preserve and promote its heritage values for sustainable tourism.
