Hai Van Gate was recognized as a national relic site in 2017. In 2012, Da Nang city and Thua Thien Hue province agreed to jointly restore the relic with an investment of over VND 40 billion. Main parts of the upgrade were completed early this year.

According to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, the opening of Hai Van Gate to tourists will help spread the values of the relic and develop tourism in both localities.
