U.S. NGO provides free check-ups in Thua Thien - Hue
PANO – A medical team is providing free check-ups and medicines for 800 poor patients, policy beneficiaries, Agent Orange/dioxin victims, and national contributors in Khe Tre and Thuong Lo communes, Nam Dong district, Thua Thien - Hue province, from April 18 to 25.
The team includes 20 U.S. experts and volunteers, and 40 lecturers and students from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, led by “Vets With A Mission” – a U.S.-based non-government organization.

Previously on April 17, the delegation held an exchange with Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and donated 80 English-Vietnamese medical dictionaries to the university’s students to help them improve their English skills for their future professional requirements, having an opportunity to integrate to international community, and expanding medical cooperation potential between both sides in the coming time.
These activities were in the framework of the education exchange project funded by the U.S. State Department. The objective of the project is to share knowledge, study experience, teaching methods, and field cooperation through the voluntary health check-ups, conducted by students and lecturers of medical universities in Central Vietnam and the U.S.’s humanitarian aid organizations working on medical aspect.

Additionally, the project offers an opportunity for Vietnamese medical students to practice and improve their skills and contributes to promoting the bilateral people-to-people diplomacy.
“Vets With A Mission” was founded in 1988 and started the process of healing the wound of war in Vietnam. After 30 years, the organization sponsored USD 3 billion for supporting several regions in Vietnam by building health stations in urban areas, offering training courses to medical staff and doctors for improving their skills, and sending rescue teams to flood-hit regions to assist Vietnam in natural disaster relief.
