Ship SAR 273 (left) towing the troubled trawler ashore safely

Earlier on August 25, trawler NA 97788 TS, with Bui Xuan Luan at the helm and 19 crew-members on board, went adrift due to engine failure. This occurred about 55 nautical miles off Ha Tinh Beach. The boat shook violently due to high waves and strong winds from Storm Pakhar in the East Sea (South China Sea).

After receiving the trawler’s mayday, the National Committee for Search and Rescue immediately sent Ship SAR 273, docked at the Cua Lo Port in Nghe An province, to the scene. It took over 10 hours for the search and rescue team to reach the troubled trawler and promptly saved all fishermen. The trawler was then safely towed ashore.
