PM appoints council for HCM City’s metro line No 5
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has decided to establish a State Appraisal Council to appraise the first phase of Ho Chi Minh City’s metro line No 5 between Sai Gon Bridge in Binh Thanh district and district 8 and report to the Government.
Minister of Planning and Investment Nguyen Chi Dung will be the head of the council.
Its members will be from the Government Office, the State Bank of Vietnam, ministries, and the city People’s Committee.
They will appraise the necessity of the project and its impact on the city’s socio-economic development besides the builders’ experience and financial capability.

The project’s developers have been told to provide all necessary documents and information to the council. The council will be disbanded when it completes the task.
In the first phase, line No 5 will intersect line No 1 at Sai Gon Bridge and line No 2 at Bay Hien intersection in Tan Binh district.
It is expected to begin operation in 2025, linking outlying districts with the city centre. The city will have six lines in all.
