The event was attended by Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Rinh, former member of the Party Central Committee, former Deputy Minister of National Defense and VAVA’s President.

The first edition of this awards, which was held as part of the activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the Vietnam AO/Dioxin disaster day (August 10, 1961-2021), was evaluated as an important and practical event.

The award affirmed the role and importance of the press in disseminating AO disaster-related information. It also demonstrated the Party’s and State’s concern and care about those who had taken part in revolutionary movements, their children, and grandchildren who have been exposed to toxic chemicals; the settlement of toxic chemical consequences; care and support for AO/dioxin victims; the fight for justice for Vietnamese AO/dioxin victims.

Since its launch a year ago, the organizing board received around 600 press works, including 400 quality entries published on the VAVA’s journals, newspapers, and other journals. Participating press works vividly reflected the AO disaster in Vietnam, the settlement of AO/dioxin consequences, as well as the care and support for AO victims.

Of 80 works to the final, the organizers presented three first, five second, 10 third, and 15 consolation prizes to the most outstanding ones. Nine collectives and two individuals with outstanding achievements in organizing the press awards were also honored at the event. 

Thirty three awarded works will be edited before being published in a book, titled “AO disaster - Sharing and aspiration” by the VAVA Central Committee.
