Northern mountainous provinces asked to brace for floods and landslides
PANO - The Standing Office under the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention under the National Committee for Incident, Disaster Response and Search and Rescue on June 24 issued an official dispatch, requiring steering committees for disaster prevention and search and rescue in the Northern mountainous provinces and of some ministries to actively gear up to respond to potential floods and landslides.
Under the dispatch, the Steering Committees for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of the Northern mountainous provinces and ministries should vigilantly follow developments of rains, floods, flash floods and landslides.

Related localities and units are asked to double check places prone to landslides and flash floods, unsafe houses to make evacuation plans, and projects to ensure safety of flood prevention facilities while enhancing patrol, guard, preparations of forces, equipment, vehicles and food, fresh water, medicines and other necessities.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF), from June 24 to 26, torrential rains and storms are expected in the North and in mountainous and midland areas.
Consequently, the Northern mountainous provinces, especially Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Yen Bai, Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang are at varying degrees of risk of flash floods and landslides.
