Earlier, Le Van Phong, a native in Chau Giang commune, Duy Tien district, Ha Nam province, had an accident leading to hemiplegia (paralysis on one side of the body) while his ship, the Thai Binh Bay, was on its way from Thailand to Bangladesh. Hai Phong-based Binh Minh International Sunrise Shipping JSC. is the ship-owner.
After receiving the mayday signal, the center instructed other fishermen on board to give the patient first aid and informed the Malaysian Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center and the ship-owner to send ships for a rescue mission.
At 19:00 on August 22, the rescue ship approached the fishing boat and brought the patient to the Port of Kelang for further treatment.
The center also contacted the Vietnamese Embassy in Malaysia to provide support for the troubled fisherman in treatment and repatriation.
