In 2024, the two sides exchanged information via their hotline to verify, receive, and repatriate citizens who had illegally entered or exited the countries, as well as other information related to ensuring security and order.

Dien Bien provincial Department of Public Security and Public Security Bureau of Pu’er city sign Memorandum of Understanding outlining bilateral cooperation on ensuring security and order in the border areas.

In the first 10 months of this year, the Dien Bien provincial police verified and received 42 cases of citizens who had illegally entered China and been repatriated by the Chinese side. They also discovered 997 drug-related cases involving 1,152 suspects, seizing 47kg of heroin and 45kg of synthetic drugs.

At the meeting, the two sides proposed areas for cooperation in the coming period to continue maintaining security and order, and issues of mutual concern such as combating transnational crimes, terrorism, illegal religious activities, cybercrime, human trafficking, and illegal immigration.

They then signed a Memorandum of Understanding outlining bilateral cooperation on ensuring security and order in the border areas.
