More than 40 education policymakers and senior practitioners from 8 countries in East Asia, including Japan, Singapore and Thailand, and from the UK, gathered in Hanoi on February 6 to discuss “education and employability”.
Organised by the British Council in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Training, the symposium kicks off a series of at least six in East Asia.
Speaking at the symposium, Keith Davies, British Council Director, said Vietnam was chosen for the launch symposium because there is a growing appreciation of Vietnam’s fast developing education sector and a desire to work with Vietnam on the part of both the UK and regional partners.
Meanwhile UK Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education, Bill Rammell, said the two-day symposium will lead to concrete proposals for co-operation and research and encourage the development of strategic alliances and networks.
The symposium series is part of the second of the UK “Prime Minister’s Initiative for international education, which sees strategic alliances and partnerships as key to developing strong national education systems.
