PANO - The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Can Tho city plans to build more than 3,000 houses of great unity in 2013, and to raise more money in 2013's first “For the poor” fund drive.
Addressing a conference on May 13, Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu, Deputy Chairman of the Committee in Can Tho City, said that more than VND 81.4 billion out of VND 97.6 billion collected in 2012 was funneled to the construction of 3,198 houses of great unity and to repair 144 others.
Besides, the “For the poor” Fund was used to assist the poor with health check-ups and treatment, and needy students and farmers with product development.
After 12 years, the committee has built 17,000 houses of great unity and repaired over 6,000 houses for the poor. Currently, Can Tho City has over 19,000 poor households, 5,000 families are living in dilapidated housing and about 4,000 households have no land for houses.
