The event was jointly held by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Steering Committee for External Information, and Vietnam Television. The eve of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Launched in November 2019, the sixth National External Information Service Awards received 1,331 entries, including many submissions in different languages, which a 37% increase compared to the previous edition. The participating entries include 574 news items in Vietnamese on printed and e-newspapers, 142 articles in foreign languages, 268 radio and television works, 164 photos, 108 books, 30 videos and other initiatives and products. They vividly reflected important internal and external relations activities of the nation in 2019 and in the first sixth months of this year when Vietnam and other countries were facing challenges caused by COVID-19.

Speaking at the event, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan congratulated the winners on their achievements. She praised the quality of this year’s participating entries, which reflected upon important national and international events and helped raise public awareness of foreign relations and popularize the image of Vietnam, its people, and culture to the world. 

The top legislator said that this year’s contest attracted more articles from foreign authors than the previous year. Ngan affirmed that it was efforts and determination of the whole people and military in building and safeguarding the nation, especially in the fight against COVID-19 over the past time, that have inspired foreigners to contribute articles about the work.  

Ngan said that future articles about foreign relations activities should focus on raising public awareness of Vietnam’s position in the world and the role of external relations in the current period. They should also help popularize Vietnam and its people to the world, affirm the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam, attract resources for economic recovery and development, and mobilize all forces to disseminate external relations information. 

This year, the People’s Army Newspaper bagged two second, two third, and one consolation prizes. 

On the same day, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor awarded the second Nguyen Van Linh Awards to ten outstanding members of trade unions on the occasion of the 91st anniversary of the foundation day of the Vietnam Trade Union.
