Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has called on Polish and Vietnamese businesses to promote cooperation in investment, trade and tourism, saying their effective cooperation will help boost the two countries’ fine relations.
Addressing the Vietnam-Poland trade and investment promotion forum in Warsaw on September 14, Mr Dung highlighted important prerequisites for the two countries’ business circles to promote cooperation. According to Mr Dung, Vietnam and Poland established the friendly and cooperative relations nearly six decades ago, which will further develop in the coming time. The two governments pledged to beef up their economic, investment and trade cooperation to raise bilateral trade to US$500 million in the coming 2-3 years, creating good conditions for their businesses to seek investment opportunities.
Mr Dung said that tens of thousands of Vietnamese nationals residing in Poland and those who studied in Poland and now are working in Vietnam will serve as a bridge between the two business circles. In addition, he said the two countries have great potential for cooperation as they are developing economies and WTO members.
At the forum, Mr Dung witnessed the signing of a contract under which Poland will provide a US$300 million preferential credit to the Vietnam Shipbuilding Industry Group (VINASHIN) to develop the shipbuilding industry in Vietnam.
The same day, Mr Dung met with Lower House speaker Ludwik Dorn and Senate speaker Bogdan Borusewicz, who praised Vietnam’s Doi Moi (Renewal) process and its external policies as well as the tremendous achievements in recent times. They spoke highly of the results of talks between Mr Dung and his Polish counterpart Jaroslaw Kaczynski and said directions and measures adopted by the two PMs will lay a firm foundation for Vietnam and Poland to promote their friendship and cooperation for mutual benefit.
Mr Dung also visited a trade centre established by the Vietnamese community in Warsaw and talked to representatives of the community there.
