Vietnam is interested in French investment as the two countries have traditional time-honoured ties as well as cultural similarities, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at a meeting in Hanoi on March 19 with Jacques Oudin, co-chairman of the Supreme Council for French-Vietnam Economic Cooperation Development.

The PM praised the first session of the council held in France in early October 2006 and suggested the two sides soon promote the implementation of projects on effective utility of safe water resources, building a metro system in Hanoi as well as building super markets.

PM Dung affirmed that the Vietnamese government will create favourable conditions for French investors to run businesses effectively in the country.

He also asked France to invest in upgrading the Hanoi Medical University into an international-standard university to train medical doctors for Vietnam and the region.

For his part, Jaques Oudin expressed his hope that the Vietnamese government would continue to support the council's activities, especially in encouraging French businesses to invest in Vietnam' s transportation, energy, environmental protection, banking, insurance and pharmaceutical sectors.

Jacques Oudin also conveyed to PM Dung the French President's letter inviting him to visit France.
