Le Luong Minh , Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, called on the US to put an end to its financial, trade and economic embargo against Cuba at a plenary meeting of the 61st session of the UN General Assembly on Nov. 8.

Ambassador Minh affirmed that the Vietnamese Government and people, together with other countries and peoples, will continue to do their utmost in assisting the Government and people of Cuba to overcome the effects of the embargo.

Expressing friendship and solidarity with the Cuban people, Ambassador Minh stressed: "Every State has the inalienable right to determine its own political system and path of development suitable to its own specific conditions. Viet Nam believes that the differences between the United States and Cuba should and can be settled through dialogue and negotiations on the basis of mutual respect and respect for each other’s independence and sovereignty and non-interference in each other’s internal affairs."

He said: "Viet Nam believes the normalization and development of friendly relations between the two geographically close neighbors will only serve the interests of their peoples and those of regional and international peace and security. " Therefore i n the spirit of the 14th General Assembly resolutions, most recently Resolution 60/12 adopted last year, Viet Nam joins others in calling upon the United States of America to end its economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba, Minh said.
