Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and Head of the provincial Steering Board on Human Rights Nguyen Long Bien speaking at the event |
In his speech, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee and Head of the provincial Steering Board on Human Rights Nguyen Long Bien underscored that over the past time, many contents related to human rights protection have been carried out actively. Particularly, in the province, freedom of belief and religion, equal rights among ethnic groups have been guaranteed. Notably, the material and spiritual life of ethnic groups has improved while the cultures of ethnic groups in the province have been preserved and promoted. In addition, many products imbued with the culture of the Cham ethnic group have become popular in several markets.
The official attributed the provincial achievements in socio-economic development in general and in promoting human rights in particular to the contribution of the provincial Steering Board on Human Rights, the advice of its affiliates given to the provincial Party and people’s committees to lead the drastic and synchronous implementation of groups of solutions to well perform human rights, citizenship, policies on ethnicity, religion, and social security. These rights have been implemented in association with the fight against and prevention of hostile forces’ activities to take advantage of democracy, human rights, ethnicity and religion issues to sabotage the country. The implementation of these solutions has actively contributed to local socio-economic development and maintenance of political stability.
Also according to Mr. Bien, together with obtained outcomes, there remain certain shortcomings and limitations in human rights-related protection, struggle and dissemination. Therefore, the course was of importance to provide the participants with basic and comprehensive knowledge of human rights, achievements, limitations and lessons drawn in Vietnam’s human rights protection activities in order to promptly respond and fight against distorted allegations of hostile forces to better the protection of and fight for human rights in the province.
At the event, orators introduced important information related to human rights. This was useful for the province to apply to making changes in its human rights protection and combat against wrongful views, especially in the context of current complicated situational developments in the region and the world.
On October 11, Vietnam was elected to the U.N. Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the 2023-2025 tenure at the 77th session of the U.N. General Assembly. This is the second time the country has been elected to the UNHRC. The first one was in 2013 for the 2014-2016 term.
Vietnam’s election to the UNHRC, a very important body of the U.N. system on protecting and promoting human rights, demonstrated the international community’s acknowledgment of the country’s policies, utmost efforts, and achievements in further ensuring the rights of its people in all fields.
