A huge book, entitled “The Legend of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel” was introduced to the public on July 5 by the Media Information Centre for Environmental Development, Vietnam People’s Army Publish House and the Buddhist Church of Vietnam.
This is the seventh book in the “The Legend of Vietnam” set, a Cultural Project to show gratitude to Vietnamese martyrs who had laid down their lives for national independence and freedom.
“The Legend of Quang Tri Ancient Citadel” with a list of more than 4,000 martyrs’ names, comprises four parts: “Quang Tri”, “Ancient Citadel of Quang Tri and the historic traces”, “Ancient Citadel of Quang Tri – the legend in scorching summer” and “Your Names Become the Name of Nation”, reflects the magnanimous history of Quang Tri over the 81 days and nights in the scorching summer of 1972 during the epic Quang Tri battle against foreign invaders.
Colonel Tran Ngoc Long, former deputy-head of Battalion 1, E48 Thanh Han – F320B, said this is for the first time after 4 decades that the names of martyrs who laid down their lives at the Quang Tri battle were solemnly printed in a book. This, to some extent, meets the burning desire of thousands of martyrs’ families.
10,000 printed books will be presented to martyrs’ families and the unique huge book will be stored in the Museum of Ancient Citadel of Quang Tri.
This great book will be paraded in a ceremonial car of Vietnam People’s Army through streets in Hanoi: Tran Thai Tong, Pham Hung, Tran Duy Hung, Nguyen Chi Thanh, Kim Ma, Nguyen Thai Hoc and Hoang Dieu and then to Quang Trị province.
