President urges An Giang to tap advantages in high-tech agriculture, tourism
An Giang should bring into full play its advantages in high-tech agriculture and tourism to move ahead, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc told incumbent and former leaders of the Mekong Delta province on January 18 as part of his working trip to the locality on the occasion of the lunar New Year festival.
Hailing contributions by various generations of officials to the development of An Giang and the country over the past time, the President praised An Giang for its efforts to overcome difficulties to achieve growth and State budget collection targets.
He said the inauguration of Asia's largest rice factory in An Giang and the construction of a road linking National Highway 91 and the bypass of Long Xuyen city will be the driving force for local socio-economic development.
The same day, the President attended the inauguration ceremony of Hanh Phuc rice factory located in Tri Ton district, with a daily capacity of 1,000 tons of processed rice, the biggest in Asia.
In his remarks, Phuc said the factory plays an important role as it helps to create new added values for the domestic rice sector.
He said An Giang should continue to form large-scale rice fields, promote production chains, and encourage startups in agriculture to raise productivity, production value, and income for farmers.
