The Party work overseas is growing increasingly important as Vietnam is becoming more deeply integrated into the world, said Politburo member Truong Tan Sang.

Mr. Sang, who is also a permanent member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat, emphasized this at a ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Overseas Party Committee, which was attended by Party and State leaders.

He said it is the political mission of overseas Party Units to gather and unite the Vietnamese communities abroad and help them integrate into their countries of residence while maintaining the nation’s traditional cultural identities and upholding national patriotism.

The Party Units should work closely with Vietnamese mass organizations, patriotic personalities, and intellectuals overseas to learn what overseas Vietnamese want and inform them about the Party and State’s policies, said Mr. Sang.

Since the Party Secretariat decision to establish an Overseas Party Committee as well as a Party Unit in each country where there are Vietnamese working and studying and in 1961, the Party has grown to more than 300 Party Units in 80 countries and territories worldwide.

Truong Manh Son, Secretary of the Overseas Party Committee, said the repatriation of 10,000 Vietnamese workers in Libya and the unity of Vietnamese people after the recent Japan earthquake show the necessity for and success of Party work abroad.
