Highly appreciating the presentations of departments, ministries, and sectors, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to record constructive opinions with a pro-active and open-minded spirit, to complete theories and supplement practical experience for diplomacy work in the new stage of the revolutionary cause.

Given many fluctuations, opportunities and challenges intertwined in the international environment, the leader emphasized the urgent requirement in clarifying the theoretical basis for the “new era” connotation of the diplomatic sector and the sector’s “important and regular” role in order for the sector to complete the tasks of consolidating a peaceful environment, taking advantage of favorable external international conditions for the country to develop rapidly.

In his concluding speech, Thang underlined several major contents and orientations for the diplomacy work in the new era. Accordingly, diplomacy in the new era must be comprehensive and modern with pioneering role promoted. Diplomatic affairs together with national defense and security affairs are important and regular.

According to Thang, diplomacy must be a bridge to combine internal strength with external strength, taking advantage of favorable conditions and external resources, contributing to expanding development space, creating new opportunities, and effectively serving the country's strategic breakthroughs. Moreover, diplomacy helps promote Vietnam's image and values to the world and Vietnam's contribution to common international issues.
