PANO – Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held a meeting for Vietnamese ambassadors and heads of overseas representative offices on August 24.
At the meeting, the chief legislator hailed the achievements in the implementation of the foreign policy in recent years. Accordingly, in the face of complicated developments of the regional and world situations, the foreign affairs service in general and ambassadors and heads of overseas representative bodies in particular have devised sound and wise foreign strategies in accordance with the local situations, contributing to preserving an environmental of peace and stability, firmly safeguarding national sovereignty and security, facilitating the attraction of external resources for economic development. The role and position of Vietnam has been increasingly been improved as a result.

Laying stress on intensive international integration, which was defined as a major strategic orientation of the country, the NA Chairwoman required that the whole foreign affairs service closely grasp the foreign policy of the Party, effectively promote the role of overseas representative offices, actively propose specific measures to the Party and State for effective integration, and support ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises in the integration process.
The NA Chairwoman held that the top responsibility of the foreign affairs service is to contribute to protecting the national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity and maintaining a peaceful environment for national development. She asked ambassadors, heads of overseas representative bodies to work harder and better to provide sufficient, important, timely and quality information for the formation and implementation of policies at home, proactively taking advantage of the support of foreign countries and the international community so that they better understand and support the just cause of building and safeguarding the nation of Vietnam.
NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and overseas representative bodies to pay more attention to protecting Vietnamese citizens abroad. Besides, the foreign affairs service needs to preserve and promote Vietnam’s cultural identity, focusing on the organization of Vietnamese language teaching courses for overseas Vietnamese children.
On behalf of the ambassadors and heads of overseas representative bodies of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh thanked the NA chief and confirmed that the top legislator’s guidance would be included in the agenda of the 29th Diplomatic Conference for implementation.
