We should pay special attention to building a strong and transparent Party, building a law-governed socialist country owned by the people, and relate developing the economy with improving people’s living conditions, said Pham Quang Nghi, Secretary of the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee.
Mr. Nghi, who is also a Politburo member, emphasized this at a ceremony to celebrate the 81st anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) held by the Hanoi Municipal Party Committee, People’s Committee, People’s Council, and Fatherland Front on January 31. The meeting was attended by Party General Secretary and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Nguyen Minh Triet, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam, and former Party and State leaders. Revolutionary veterans, Heroic Mothers, representatives of several ministries and agencies, intellectuals, Hanoi officials, and people of all classes were also present at the event.
The Hanoi Party leader said this year’s anniversary is significant to the successful organization of the 11th National Party Committee which adopted the political platform for the transitional period to socialism in Vietnam (revised and supplemented in 2011), and the socio-economic development strategy for the 2010-2020 period.
These documents will encourage the people and army to improve the Party’s fighting capacity and maintain national strength, laying a firm foundation for Vietnam to become a modern industrialised country by 2020, said Mr. Nghi.
He said in order to successfully implement the Congress’s resolution, Vietnam must pay special attention to building a strong and transparent Party, which is a key factor to successful national development.
Mr. Nghi also pointed out the shortcomings of some Party members which may prevented them from meeting the development requirements in the new period. He asked all Party members to continue to learn and follow President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example and continue to improve themselves, in the national and Party’s heroic tradition.
Representatives of Hanoi’s intellectuals and Party members gave reports reflecting their future hopes and determination to uphold the capital’s 1,000-year tradition and contribute to the national development.
Hanoi intellectuals should join hands and contribute to building knowledge-based economy, said Professor, Dr. Nguyen Xuan Han.
Hanoi attained great achievements in 2010, which contributed to the country’s development through its economic growth rate of 11 percent and per capita income of VND37 million. The capital also contributed VND100 trillion to the State budget and maintained defence and security. Especially, Hanoi made a great impression on international friends with the successful organization of the Thang Long-Hanoi millennium anniversary.
