Hailstones and whirlwinds continued hitting some northern and central localities in Vietnam on May 7-8, causing severe human and property damages.
In the northern mountainous province of Lai Chau, a person in Mit Dao village, Pac Ta commune, Tan Uyen district, was thunderstruck to dead while two others in Nam Nhun district were injured during the hail and whirlwinds on May 7.
The disaster also damaged hundreds of houses and nearly 18 hectares of rice and other crops.
Local authorities have instructed relevant forces to help residents to soon stabilise their lives. The Tan Uyen district sent a delegation to visit and give a financial support worth 6 million VND to the family of the dead.
Meanwhile, in Lai Chau’s neighbouring province of Yen Bai, heavy rains and whirlwinds hit Gioi Phien commune, Yen Bai city on May 8, unroofing 61 houses and damaging nearly 2 hectares of rice and other crops, with losses totalling 200 million VND.
On May 7, a historical hail also took place in Ward 8, Da Lat city, the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong, causing a total loss of nearly 6 billion VND.
