Delegates laying wreaths to commemorate the area's fallen soldiers

In 1967, the Quang Da Zone Party Committee divided Hoa Vang district into three areas. Area 1, including nine communes and one town northwest of the district, is considered a gateway to Da Nang City.

For this reason, the US invaders and puppet troops had built many concrete defensive facilities, such as Xuan Thieu airport, Thanh Vinh artillery battlefield, Lien Chieu oil storage and military posts.

In 1969 and 1970, the enemy blocked all entrances to the area to prevent food supply to the city, causing a serious starvation.

Under the leadership of the area Party Committee, Vietnam’s soldiers courageously fought and liberate the localities belonging to the area on March 29th 1975. During these fights, over 2,500 liberation fighters had laid down their lives.

After the national reunification, the Party and State presented the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces to four communes, two units and nine individuals in Area 1, and the title “Vietnamese Heroic Mother” to 250 local women.

In 2005, the liaison board of veterans of the former Area 1 was established and since then, they have held annual meeting to inquire after and encourage each other upholding revolutionary virtue and developing economy.
