PANO – The eighth Sunflower Festival took place in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City at the same time on November 22nd to call for the community’s support for children with cancer.
Many activities were held during the day, including giving scholarships to young patients who are being treated for the disease, raising funds for the patients, and exhibiting paintings drawn by children with cancer. T Nearly 10,000 people took part in the festivities.
The festival helped to share the efforts and dreams of the young patients with the community, and contributed to increasing the public awareness of caring for and supporting the patients.
The event, organized by the Youth (Tuoi Tre) Newspaper, and Hanoi’s and Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Unions, commemorated the day when a young patient named Le Thanh Thuy, in Ho Chi Minh City, died of cancer. It has been celebrated successfully seven times before.
Suffering from bone cancer, Thuy was an example of a patient with boundless energy and a zest for life. She was awarded one of the five young citizen awards in 2006 by the Ho Chi Minh City Communist Youth Union.
